I have always had big dreams and an active imagination. When I get an idea in my head I obsess over it and have to make it happen. This was why I thought Flights of Fancy by Kristy was an appropriate name for my business – it kind of describes what I’m all about!
I have been working as a lawyer for over 10 years now but during that time have dreamed of doing something more creative with my life. I worked in hospitality for many years and always loved being involved in events, so I satisfied my craving to do something more creative by studying event management and becoming a bit of a hobby event stylist in my spare time. After planning my own wedding in 2011 (which was featured on Style Me Pretty and can be viewed here) I finally decided to do something I had been thinking about for years and start up my own wedding and event styling business.
It might seem a bit of a drastic change going from lawyer to event stylist, but I find there are so many skills I’ve used and developed as a lawyer that are just as essential for designing an event, such as meticulous attention to detail (I can be a bit OCD at times!), organisational skills, an ability to understand contracts and conditions, negotiation skills, and an ability to communicate with a whole range of people. I think it’s these things combined with my creativity and eye for design and detail that make me love what I do.
I hold a Certificate III in Meetings & Events and a Diploma of Business (Wedding Planning & Consultancy) as well as a Bachelor of Laws.
