One of the things I love most about doing what I do is having the opportunity to work with other creative and like-minded people. It can get a bit lonely working on your own which is what I do most of the time, and although I’m not a particularly social person it’s nice to occasionally have a connection with someone and be able to work together on a project you are both enthusiastic about.
I had never applied to exhibit at Wedding Upmarket before but this year’s format appealed to me. Rather than having vendors with their individual set ups, the vendors were split into four groups. Each group had a stylist, a furniture/décor hire business, a cake maker, a stationery designer, a florist and so on. There were four themes and each group was responsible for bringing one of those themes to life.
Our theme was “Coastal”. But we didn’t want to do what everyone expected of a coastal themed wedding – ie nautical stripes, starfish or seashells. We wanted to keep the styling fresh and modern – something that would look great in a coastal setting but wouldn’t look out of place in another setting. So we worked with clean lines, geometric shapes and coral and mint colours.
Together with Olivia of Olive Farm Designs I was a team leader, and we were so lucky to be blessed with such a wonderful, creative and inspired team of people to work with. Our collaboration featured Pretty Willow, Ivy Flowers, Bound for You, Cherry Pies Cakes, Micktric Events, La Paleta, Fluid Ink, Elvi Design, Ann Lord CMC, and of course Jason Tey who did the most incredible job of capturing it all. Special mention must also go to many of the group’s husbands/wives/partners for their invaluable assistance in setting up and packing down – what would we do without them??
It was a long day. Set up started at 6am when it was still pitch black outside – not ideal for someone who is admittedly not a morning person! But it was a real thrill seeing everything looking the way we’d imagined, and working with such amazing people. I know I’ve formed many more relationships, both professional and personal, from my involvement in Wedding Upmarket.
Here is a look at our indoor collaboration area. The group photo at the end was taken after it was all over and we all seem to be smiling, so that’s probably a good sign! I’ll post some images of our outdoor ceremony set up collaboration next time.
