Tell us a bit about yourself and your business
Kristy Ellen Creative was born in January this year from a mind buzzing with ideas and the passion to do something with them. After working in the beauty industry for seven years (and spending the last three years in particular working closely and learning from incredible talent) I decided that it was time to venture out on my own. I’ve always had a strong vision and love for make-up artistry but also wanted Kristy Ellen Creative to unite my personal passion for wellness and beauty care too. The rest you could say has evolved organically into my own business which I’m just loving every moment of.
What do you love about being a professional makeup artist?
In short…… Everything! I am not overly creative when it comes to pen and paper, however give me a blank face to colour and there is no limit to my imagination. There are no limitations in Makeup Artistry and I find that I’m constantly being inspired in new ways and learning new techniques which all help to evolve my skills and work.
What is trending in wedding makeup at the moment?
I’m a little bit (ok, a lot!) in love this season’s wedding trend. It’s all about an effortless romantic, bohemian inspired look. Brides with fresh and glowing faces that appear make-up free, all teamed with tousled hair and beautifully stained lips. The trick is highlighting in all the right areas whilst focusing on the clarity of the skin to make it appear smooth and youthful. The eyes are kept natural and fresh to let the colour on the lips bring vibrancy to the face. It’s an easy day in the office when a bride adores this trend too!
What advice do you have for brides in deciding what look they want to go for on their wedding day?
Less is more. Pick either your eyes or lips & focus on the one (especially if you don’t typically where a lot of makeup). You want to be comfortable, relaxed and care free on your special day. You especially want your handsome groom to recognize you as you walk down the aisle! The key is to enhance your features, not cover them.
How far in advance do you recommend bride’s book their makeup artist and arrange a trial?
This may sound ridiculous, but if you have a particular makeup artist in mind book up to one year in advance. Brides need to ensure they can get the date they want to avoid disappointment! In regards to trials, I would recommend booking one as soon as you have decided on your preferred makeup artist. This way, if for any reason you are unhappy with your look, you have allowed enough time to start browsing for another one. Brides are so blessed these days with Instagram and local bridal directories in that they can spend days perusing make-up artists and are able to hand-select one that fits their personal tastes and style.
