Earlier this month I published a blog post about how we went about choosing our wedding invitations which were designed by Shayna Norwood of Steel Petal Press.
Steel Petal Press also makes lots of other lovely letterpress goodies and it’s my pleasure to share with you some of their pieces today!
Check out these gorgeous designs followed by a little Q&A with Shayna Norwood which you may find interesting if you are considering letterpress for your own invitations.
Q&A with Shayna Norwood of Steel Petal Press
Can you tell us a bit about what letterpress is for those who are not familiar with it?
Letterpress is a very handmade and tactile printing process. It is a printing technique that has been around for hundreds of years which both prints with ink while leaving a beautiful impression on each page that you can see and feel. This is what sets letterpress apart from the rest.
Why is it that letterpress is often more expensive than other types of invitations?
Letterpress involves many hours of labor and expensive materials. I hand feed each sheet of paper through the press individually and can only print one color and one side at a time. All the inks are mixed by hand in the studio.
What is the process you follow for custom designing a wedding invitation for a particular couple?
Once a couple decides to work with me we will spend some time discussing their wedding: the theme, colors, location, feel and overall vibe of the day. They provide images or any other supplemental material to help illustrate their vision. Once I get a good idea of what they are looking for, I will spend some time working on a few drafts based on our discussions. From there there editing process refines the drafts until we settle on a design!
I offer all items you might need for your wedding: thank you cards, place cards, menus, programs and guest books. In addition to my wedding collection I also sell ready-made greeting cards, hand bound journals, custom stationery and birth announcements.
What does 2012 hold in store for Steel Petal Press?
I just moved into an excellent new studio space, which is fantastic! I now have room to purchase a better paper cutter (which I’ve been needing for a while) and I’m starting 2 new interns to help me out in the studio.
You can see photos of the new space here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/steelpetalpress/sets/72157629021257671/
And I wrote a more detailed blog post here: http://steelpetalpress.com/2012/01/new-studio/
Thanks for sharing Shayna! ♥
